A Weekend in Canterbury : Low FODMAP and Gluten Free

Mr FFL and I treated ourselves to a weekend away in Canterbury, as neither of us had ever been, and it is only an hours drive from our house.

We chose to stay at the Abode Canterbury, which is very well located on the main high street.  It also meant we were in a few minutes walk from both places we ate (and all the shops).  Canterbury is a small city but it has some amazing gluten free and low fodmap finds!

We arrived just before lunch, checked into the hotel and wandered down the high street to find somewhere to eat.  I had (obviously) done some research but we actually stumbled across Kitch a few doors down from our hotel!  Kitch specialise in using natural and whole grain ingredients for maximum flavour and taste.  They offer gluten free bread and other gluten free options such as pancakes!

I was torn between the dark chocolate and banana pancakes and the loaded peanut butter toast, but I went with the pancakes. I was not disappointed!! They were amazing.  The dark chocolate chunks really made the dish! I added greek yoghurt to the top of my pancakes too.

After a brunch we headed out to the Canterbury Food Festival, followed by a walk along the castle walks and a tour of the cathedral.

For dinner, I had booked us into an 100% gluten free restaurant, Oscar and Bentleys.  Which again was a few minutes walk from our hotel.

There are also lots of dairy free options at O&B. I explained to them about my low fodmap diet and they were happy to make changes to the menu to help me.

I started my meal with gluten free bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. As I don’t often get that option, I wanted to try it out. The gf bread was really good. Mr FFL had the crispy squid rings, which I also had a few of.

For main I chose the gluten free burger with cheese and chips. The bun was lovely, as were the chips. I was pretty full after this, so unfortunately I didn’t have an room for gluten free cake.

The next morning we had breakfast at the hotel; where they had gluten free chocolate granola!! They also had gluten free bread and almond milk.

Canterbury is a lovely city for a weekend break, with lots of gluten free and low fodmap options for the win.
