UN1T: Base Class

On a mild Thursday evening I got the train up to London Bridge after work, to UN1T on Borough High Street.

Now this wasn’t my first foray into a UN1T class; I had attended one class at Be:Fit in London and also two classes at the Be:Fit Weekender in Loughborough. Although I had never tried a Base class before.

I found the studio by following the signs from Borough High Street down a set of metal stairs into a lively and modern studio.

I was greeted by friendly staff and checked in on their tablet, and waited for the class to start. At 18.10 our two instructors took us through each of the exercises we would be going through that evening. Then we had a quick warm up and stretch.

The structure of the Base class is a circuit of 8 exercises laid out in the room in front of you. At each station you do 4 sets of each exercise. Base is all about heavy weights. The class is a 30 second on and 30 second off routine, meaning you need to ensure your weights are heavy enough for only 6-8 reps. This is absolutely perfect for me and just what I like to do in the gym (maybe with a little more of a rest period…..)

The 8 exercises were:

  • Deadlift with the hex bar
  • Clean and press with a weighted bag
  • Incline chest press
  • Bent over row
  • Military press
  • Bicep curl
  • Tricep dip
  • Squat with Olympic bar

After 45 minutes of lifting and sweating the class was over. We had a quick cool down and I felt exhausted, in a good way.

UN1T have 6 other styles of classes – each day of the week is a different style. I will be back to try some of the different classes and can review them in the future. I have a feeling Base may be my favourite though!
