Gaucho: Dinner Review

So this week Mr Fittie Fodmap London (FFL) and I had booked to see Aladdin at the West End and we were thinking about where we could go for a pre-theatre dinner.  Since being on the FODMAP diet, I have felt very restricted when it came to eating out, as I’m sure Fodmapers can understand, so deciding on where to eat is never easy.

Mr FFL had never been to Gaucho and I knew if nothing else I would be able to eat a steak.  I had a look at the Gaucho website and found they had a separate gluten free menu, which I was able to look through before I made my final decision.  So I booked us into the Piccadilly restaurant, as it was a short walk to the Prince Edward Theatre.

If you have never been to a Gaucho’s restaurant before, you are in for a big treat! They all have such a great style, funky lighting and animal prints everywhere.  It reminds me of some restaurants I have been to in New York.

I informed the restaurant when booking that one guest was gluten free.  So when we turned up at the front desk to check in, the server automatically picked up a one standard menu and one gluten free.  This was a nice touch, as I didn’t have to mention it again, and just follow the server to the table like someone without a dietary requirement.

Our server was called Gustavo and he was knowledgeable about the menu and how things were cooked.  When he knew I was gluten free, he asked me if I wanted gluten free bread before our meal, and of course I jumped at the opportunity.  I love bread!!!

From the gluten free menu I decided to order the fillet steak and thin cut chips. The fillet steak was gorgeous and the chips were crispy and salty.

Our waiter was very helpful – Jon had ordered a mushroom dish, and when he brought it over, he even pointed out I could try it, if I wanted, as it was made with cornflour.  Obviously he didn’t know I couldn’t eat mushrooms, but I thought of this as kind and a thoughtful touch.

Non food related but I wanted to say a big thank you to the service team, as when I told them we were going to the theatre, they made sure we got our food quickly, and had only a small gap between Jon’s starter and our mains.  This made the whole experience stress free.

I would definitely recommend Gaucho for people with dietary requirements – the service is tip-top!
