Flykick is a fitness studio on Great Euston Road, with the nearest tube station being Great Portland Street or Warren Street. I don’t think I have been to this area of London previously, but the Flykick studio is surrounded by lovely coffee shops and eateries, so if you head up that way, you could always grab brunch/lunch while you are there.
The Flykick formula consisting of 6 elements to create a unique workout. It has been designed to maximise results, focusing on mind, body and kickboxing. The 6 elements are; Prepare, Burn, Flex, Kickbox, Core, Release.
So first up is the warm up, followed by around 20 mins of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). The HIIT is broken down in to 4 minute segments; with 2 exercises being cycled for 20 seconds on and 10 seconds off. For example 20 seconds of static squats, 10 seconds rest, 20 seconds of jump squats, 10 seconds rest, 20 seconds of static squats, etc. After the HIIT session is a lovely stretching session. It really does help to calm the body down and get you ready for the boxing session (the part I was looking forward to!).
After the stretch section comes the bag rounds. This meant the workout moved to the punch bag and I LOVED it. The punch bag sessions were 2.5 minutes on and 1 minute off. During the 1 minute off phase, the instructors showed the class the next routine we would carry out on the bag. The punch bag session was followed by 3 sets of abs, 45 seconds on and 15 seconds off. Then the cool down!
Not only was the Flykick signature class great fun, the instructors were amazing. They created a really friendly atmosphere and helped every attendee no matter what their level of fitness. I got some really great support with my kicks, which is something I have always struggled with. I even spent about 1 minute just going over and over kicks to get the technique right.
I honestly loved this class, and compared to some other London boxing classes, you really feel that 1:1 tuition. Flykick offer different pricing options, where you can buy one off classes or a bundle of classes, so no excuse not to give the studio a try. I would definitely recommend the class to anyone.
